M74 is one of the faintest Messier objects with a surface brightness of 14.2. This is a face on barred spiral galaxy similar to M101. This galaxy lies at a distance of 30 million light years and has a diameter of about 80,000 light years. This galaxy has had a high rate of stellar formation over the last several hundred million years and has many HII regions. This image consists of 6 hours Lum and 2.5 hours each RGB and was processed as an LRGB image. |
